The Inclement Weather Combat Shirt is a high performance shirt that provides protection against a broad spectrum of environmental, occupational and battlefield hazards. The IWCS is worn by both United States Marines and United States Navy Sailors. It maximizes flame resistance (FR) and wet weather protection. It is designed to be worn over the Combat Shirt and under the currently fielded body armor systems. It has padding in the elbows and shoulders. The sleeves have a thumbhole, and a zippered pocket with loop material for shoulder patches. This version in NWU Type III fabric is used by the US Navy. All thread, zippers and loop components are flame resistant.
